Comb for Labor
Comb for Labor
The comb works by combining the gate control theory and acupressure. The gate control theory suggests that the brain can’t focus on multiple sensations at once. By squeezing the comb, you redirect pain signals (from contractions, after pains, or medical procedures) to block the brain’s pain response.
When you squeeze the comb, you apply pressure to the Lao gong acupressure point in the palm, which helps reduce anxiety, boost endorphins, and dull other sensations. To find this point, make a fist and place the comb where your middle and ring fingers meet your palm. After a few seconds, you may feel warmth. Squeeze the comb when the contraction begins, and release when the contraction ends. You can switch hands to avoid soreness. Start with a light grip and gradually increase pressure as contractions intensify.
